Automotive Safety Tips
Turn ON your turn signals one-half to one block BEFORE you intend to make a turn. WHY? This is your way of telling other driver’s what you’re going to do. It gives the other driver’s a chance to slow down in a safe distance (if they are behind you and especially of they are following too close) AND, it gives driver’s a chance to move to another lane to avoid being stuck behind you if they chose not to. Turning on your turn signal right when you get to the corner (or not at all) does no one any good.
If you’re driving on side streets and come to a stop at the end of a block or where the block you are on comes to an intersection, stay to your RIGHT as far as you safely can. WHY? This gives other driver’s more room to negotiate a turn onto the block you are standing at in your vehicle. It also takes the fear out of your mind that the oncoming, turning vehicle has enough room to make the turn as they are rounding the corner heading towards your vehicle. Think about it. It just another form of driver courtesy.
As long-time collector car enthusiasts and careful drivers we should always be setting examples of driver and vehicle safety!
